Listen to When Creative Projects Go Sideways: How to Realign and Recover:
You start with momentum, with purpose.
But somewhere along the way—it stalls.
You feel stuck, disconnected, or like the project has taken a turn you didn’t plan for.
Sound familiar?
You’re not alone. This happens to artists of all kinds.
And it doesn’t mean you’ve failed.
It means it’s time to realign.
💥 When Creative Work Goes Off Course

It doesn’t always look dramatic.
Sometimes the project just… loses spark.
You can’t finish it. You don’t want to look at it. You start questioning the whole thing. This happens to dancers, writers, actors, singers, and visual artists.
And if it’s happening to you? It doesn’t mean the work is broken. It means your creative rhythm is calling for a reset.
🎭 A Story of Pause, Not Panic
I worked with Veronica, a dancer who was choreographing a new solo. At first, she was excited. She felt inspired. But about halfway through, she started doubting everything—the movement, the message, even her ability.
She didn’t need to scrap it.
She needed space to step back and reimagine the process.
🧠 Why Creative Projects Derail
Here’s what I see in coaching all the time:
- We push through resistance instead of pausing
- We expect creativity to be linear
- We judge ourselves instead of adjusting
- We tie the value of the project to our identity
Sound familiar?
But creative recovery is part of the process.
The messy middle is where real artists learn how to adapt—not just produce.
🛠️ How to Realign and Recover
Here are 4 practical steps to help you reset without giving up:
1. Step back—without walking away
Sometimes clarity only comes when we step out of the pressure.
Give yourself a temporary pause, not a permanent stop.
2. Get real about what’s not working
Is it the vision? The format? The timeline? The inner critic?
Naming the resistance gives you back control.
3. Reconnect with your original why
Why did this matter to you? What pulled you to create it in the first place?
That spark still matters.
4. Edit the path, not the purpose
Maybe the project needs less structure. Maybe you need more time. Maybe the story changed.
That’s not failure—that’s growth.
