Listen to I Stopped Hiding My True Thoughts for 3 Months—Here’s What Happened on:
Ever caught yourself swallowing your words?
Nodding when you don’t agree?
Editing yourself to keep the peace?
We all do it. Because honesty—real, unfiltered, here’s-what-I-actually-think honesty—is terrifying.
But what if we stopped?
What if, instead of cushioning our words and tiptoeing around discomfort, we told the truth about what we need, want, believe, and feel?
For the past three months, Echo Vetter, a life coach, speaker, and mother of six, has been doing just that. She’s been practicing radical honesty—saying exactly what she thinks and feels, even when it’s scary. And in our latest Healthy, Wealthy, Wise Artist Podcast, she shares what happened when she stopped hiding her true thoughts.
Spoiler: It wasn’t easy. But it was life-changing.
Why Radical Honesty Feels So Hard
Let’s be real—most of us don’t want to be dishonest. We want to be real. We want deep, connected relationships. We want to express ourselves fully.
But honesty comes with a cost.
Saying the hard thing can feel like a free fall into uncertainty. Will they misunderstand me? Will they get upset? Will I ruin everything?

Echo shared that when she first started this honesty practice, it triggered all kinds of emotions—fear, shame, and even grief. Why? Because when we’ve been filtering ourselves for years, suddenly removing the filter feels raw. Exposed. Vulnerable.
But here’s what she discovered:
The pain of honesty is nothing compared to the pain of inauthenticity.
Read that again.
When we hold back our truth, we might avoid an awkward moment—but we pay for it in self-abandonment. We disconnect from ourselves and, ultimately, from others.
What Happens When You Stop Filtering Yourself?
So, what changed for Echo after three months of radical honesty?
Here’s what she shared in our conversation:
1️⃣ Relationships Got Deeper
Instead of walking on eggshells, she found that honesty built trust. Not everyone liked it, but the relationships that mattered? They grew stronger.
2️⃣ Emotions Became Clearer
When you stop silencing yourself, you actually hear yourself. You recognize what you truly want, what drains you, and where you need boundaries.
3️⃣ Fear Didn’t Go Away—But It Lost Power
At first, being fully honest felt terrifying. But over time, the fear shrank. She realized that not saying what she needed felt worse than the discomfort of saying it.
4️⃣ Creativity Felt Freer
Here’s something unexpected: honesty didn’t just change her relationships—it changed the way she expressed herself. When we stop filtering in life, we stop filtering in art.
What About You?
If you’re reading this thinking, This sounds amazing, but I could never do it—you’re not alone. Most of us have spent years learning to edit ourselves for acceptance.
But what if you experimented with honesty?
What if, just once today, you said the thing that feels just a little scary?
Because the truth is—honesty isn’t the thing that breaks us. It’s what sets us free.
